What you can do
- Ask your child to show you a channel or video they enjoy. What do they like about it, and how do they find new videos?
- Use YouTube’s own help to review family settings for your child’s account. Look on your child’s device to see what your choices change.
- Agree that your child can close an upsetting video and come to an adult. They do not need to keep watching to explain what happened. Settings cannot catch all unwanted content.
Avoid
- Listen first, without blaming or shaming your child.
- Do not forward private messages, intimate images or explicit screenshots.
- No app can protect against everything. Do not promise that it can.
